Acceptable Use Policy for Public Library Internet

Access to Internet public library programming is available to adult patrons, teens, and children accompanied by their parent / guardian, and library trustees and staff. We are very pleased to provide this service and believe the network offers vast, diverse, and unique resources. Our goal in providing this service to our patrons is to promote educational excellence in our library and community.
Each library user will sign in with their last name and valid Evergreen card #, computers are in an area where children are permitted and can view the screens, and our policy will restrict users from engaging in any of the following:
a.       Accessing, uploading, downloading or distributing pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit materials.
b.      Transmitting obscene, abusive, or sexually explicit language.
c.       Violating any local, state, or federal statute.
d.      Vandalizing, damaging, or disabling the property of another person.
e.       Violating copyright or otherwise using another person’s intellectual property without prior approval.
f.       Using the network for commercial or private business.
g.      Using the network for product advertisement for political lobbying.
h.      Transmitting hate mail, harassment, or discriminating remarks.
i.        Using chat rooms.
The Paoli Public Library reserves the right to prohibit other usage.
The Paoli Public Library reserves the right to monitor use of library owned equipment and networks (this includes the wireless network).
Patrons / visitors using the Library’s wireless network may be asked to provide proof of site use (when asked).
Patrons / visitors using the Library’s wireless network and using their own laptops may be limited to one hour during regular library hours. This frees up the network for other patrons.
Time limits will be set, and reserved times can be used.
If a user of the Internet violates library policy, his / her privileges will be suspended immediately. The length of the suspension will be determined by the library board. The Paoli Public Library will not be responsible for unauthorized financial obligations resulting from use of personal patron accounts in accessing the Internet.
The educational value of patron Internet access is the joint responsibility of patrons, teens, parents, and staff of the library. It is the utmost importance that each respective group understands this policy and the consequences of violating this policy.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
The reader of this policy acknowledges that he / she has read and understands the Paoli Public Library Internet Use Policy. The reader further acknowledges and agrees that the Paoli Public Library assumes no liability for loss or damage to the user’s data or for any damage or injury arising from invasion of privacy in his / her computer accounts, programs, or files.
REVISION OF THE POLICY:
The Paoli Public Library Board reserves the right to amend this policy at any time without notice. Further, the Board delegates this right to Library staff to inspect or observe the use made of library equipment, software, and in the use of the Library wireless network as well as other resources for purposes of enforcement of this policy.
This policy will be made available for review by all patrons, guardians, staff and board members in the community. A copy is on file at the library.
An Internet use permission form will be adopted with Library Board approval and be available in the library.
